MAU Tu

MAU Tu is a mentoring programme created to connect Pasifika and Maori design and creative students to education and employment pathways, literacy, financial, and design support. Currently in its first year of implementation at Unitec, MAU Tu caters to both Bachelor and Architectural Studies and Master of Architecture students. Currently run by John Belford-Lelaulu and myself, we seek to provide support to pasika and maori students anyway we can to help them succeed. This is one component of a larger eco-system of programmes and services that will provide support to students and professionals who wish to combat human challenges. Other components are MAU Academy, which is NZ's first creative impact academy, which creates opportunities for high school students to use their creative skills and talents for social impact. This is currently being implemented at De La Salle College in Mangere. MAU Workshop is an elective currently being run at Unitec which creates opportunities for tertiary students to create human-centred and compassionate responses to humanitarian challenges. These components will be open to all students, but will particularly focus on maori and pasfika students. All programmes are currently in their pilot year. Long term we seek to open these programmes in more high schools and institutions in order to be accessible to more students.
