Ko Tainui te waka, ko Tararua Te Maunga, ko Ngāti Raukawa ki Te Tonga te iwi, ko Ngāti Kapumanawawhiti te hapu.

Ellen's background is in architecture, design, and building conservation, and her main focus is on working with what we've got, and ensuring it survives into the future.

Ellen works for Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga as a Maori Built Heritage advisor. In her work she has the privilege of working with whānau, hapu, and iwi to preserve and document their various built taonga such as marae builldings, whare karakia, school houses and other buildings of significance to Maori communities. She also has years of experience working with iwi in relation to archaeological sites.

Many creative projects come out of the conservation of built heritage, and Ellen is often involved in exhibition design, interpretation and other signage development, concept planning for adaptive re-use of heritage buildings, revitalisation of traditional arts, and the preparation of conservation plans and building maintenance plans.
