Amanda is an academic who has taught design since 1995 and a registered architect with 17 years of professional experience. Since beginning her architectural research practice Archiscape in 1999 she has focused on developing contemporary sustainable or regenerative architecture influenced by the cultural and spatial qualities of pre-contact Maori built environments. She has continued to develop this architectural research since joining Massey University's Spatial Design programme. Amanda is the co-director of SuRe, Massey University’s College of Creative Arts Sustainability Research Network; director of Spatial Design’s research cluster SCAPE the research studio for Spatial, Cultural and Performance Environments; and is her Institute’s representative for Massey University’s Maori Achievement Plan, a strategy established to support Maori curriculum offerings and develop indigenous research. She is a trustee of the Friends of Futuna Charitable Trust established to support John Scott’s Futuna Chapel.
