MY ACHIEVEMENT IS NOT THAT OF AN INDIVIDUAL, BUT IS THAT
OF MANY (WE CAN ACHIEVE MUCH TOGETHER)
This year the tono for our annual hui has come
from Ngati Kahungunu. Chair Ngahiwi Tomoana
has welcomed the opportunity to focus a
national Maori body holding extensive creative
capital on their current project, the Ngati
Kahungunu Innovation Hub.
In accordance with our guiding kaupapa
‘Designing Maori Futures’ and our tikanga
of ensuring we contribute our collective
intellectual and creative capital to benefit the
hau kainga wherever we hold our hui, this year
our hui kaupapa is ‘Iwi Innovation’ and we will
be contributing to some exciting innovation
projects in Heretaunga.
This is a great chance to connect with some
kindred spirits to share ideas, stories,
frustrations, opportunities and experiences
with a group who ‘get it’ – a chance to showcase your mahi to inspire others, or to chillax and
be inspired by others. This is a once in the year
opportunity to escape the daily grind and hang
out with some cool cats doing amazing things –
you might even have an epiphany or two.
We will be staying under the shadow of Otatara
– one of NZs oldest Pa sites, over-looking the
historic mouth of the awa Tutaekuri – a former
highway to Te Runanganui o Ngati Kahungunu
a gathering place of tribal leaders – on the
plains of a hundred pathways Heretaunga
Ararau, the resting place of the sleeping giant
Te Mata o Rongokako under the mana of the
maunga tapu Kahuranaki – the resting place of
the Hawk, inspiring us to take on the view of the
Hawk - beyond the horizon to our future –
Te haaro o te Kaahu ki tuawhakarere.
