I whānau mai ahau ki Tāmaki Makaurau.
Ko Shayna tōku ingoa.
My ancestors came to Aotearoa on ships made from the trees from their distant whenua, searching for a better life for themselves and their mokopuna. This is something I believe ties us all together here in Aotearoa and guides my work. In my mahi I believe respecting the past, acknowledging all of our histories and understanding them will guide us to a better future together. This focuses my work on resurfacing the histories, identities and designs of Māori that have been hidden and erased through colonisation and urbanisation. Often there is only one person, a small team, a small budget, one whānau, one hapū or one iwi working on an important kaupapa - but that is enough to make significant change. Together we can weave a future that includes all of our culture, languages and unique designs which are what makes Aotearoa such a special place to be.
